From Sips to Substances – BCA Research Expo 2026
Modeling Energy Drink Consumption as a Behavioral Predictor of Adolescent Substance Use
Program: BCA Research Expo 2026
Approach: Analyzed the 2024 Monitoring the Future national dataset (N = 17,351) using chi-square tests and multivariate logistic regression to evaluate demographic, behavioral, and attitudinal predictors of daily energy drink consumption and substance use
Methods: Odds ratio modeling, risk-factor analysis, and predictive behavioral framework
Outcome: Presented a full academic research poster and statistical findings at the BCA Expo
Key Finding: Daily energy drink consumption significantly increased the likelihood of alcohol, marijuana, amphetamine, hallucinogen, heroin, LSD, and cocaine use (up to +63% for cocaine)
